In recognition that Christian formation is a life-long process, Christian education at Emmanuel comprises those opportunities, resources, and instruction that support "...for all ages..." our mission to be loving, caring, and nurturing Christians.
Youth and Adult Christian Formation
Beginning on September 11, Adult Classes meet at 9:15 each Sunday morning, and the Youth Classes meet on certain Sundays at 5:30 PM.
Beginning September 11, 2011, the Adults are discussing the 23rd Psalm using Max Lucado's book "Safe in the Shepherd's Arms". Copies of this book are available both at Church and Fox Chapel. Cost is $14.00. If paying by check, make it out to Scott Norris. Following our sessions on this Psalm, we will discuss selected narratives from the Gospel of Luke. We expect that our discussions will be lively and far ranging.
Our Youth Christian Formation Class is geared to the education and spiritual growth of the youth in the congregation.
Pastor Claire and Michelle Hart (with help, of course) are leading the 5:30 PM Sunday evening gatherings that include dinner. A detailed schedule of the classes is posted in the parish hall, and are included on the "Current Events" page of this website.
The youth have been talking about "What does a Jesus world look like?" But the lesson doesn't end when they go home. The youth are bringing those lessons to life and reaching out to others in their community. Their activities include fundraising projects like Pennies From Heaven and Souper Bowl Sunday, Christmas caroling and visiting with the home-bound, assembling Church World Services Health Kits and helping their parish's participation in Rebuild Our Church in Haiti.
The Adult and Youth Classes are discontinued from Memorial Day weekend until the first Sunday after Labor Day.
Special Programs
Special educational programs are developed for many of the special seasons and occasions in the Church year.
The 2011 Lenten Wednesday Evening sessions were held at 6:30 PM on March 16, 23, and 30. We used the Study Guide provided by the National Church to review and discuss the proposed Anglican Covenant.
